IndiaIn a much-needed shot in the arm for the Indian education sector, the Union Budget 2024–25 announced a significant increase in allocation, reaching a staggering ₹99,300 crore. This marks a welcome step towards realising the government's vision of improving access, quality, and research in education across all levels.
Education experts agree that the budget has been allocated more, but they also stress that funds must be used promptly and effectively. In order to guarantee that these monies reach their intended recipients and have a real influence, stakeholders call for openness in the allocation and use of these monies.
Although the budget increase is a step in the right direction, many feel that it still falls short of the 6% of GDP that the National Education Policy 2020 recommends. Nevertheless, it inspires optimism for a better future when high-quality education is available to everyone and symbolises a reinvigorated commitment to education.
