About
Thiagarajar College founded on 7th July 1949, was formally inaugurated on 12th October 1949 by His Excellency, the King of Bhavnagar, the then Governor of the Madras State. In the inaugural function, the founder, Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, described this college as a “Small and Humble Endeavour in Education”. It is said that as the mathematical equation 7 x 7 = 49 will remain unchanged forever, the college will also remain immortal on the sands of eternity, as it was opened on 07.07.1949.
From its inception, the college remains one of the premier institutions in Madurai. The college was started with only three undergraduate courses but now has grown in its stature with 28 UG, 12 PG and 11 M.Phil and 10 Ph.D Programmes in addition to 13 diploma and 16 Certificate courses. The college is a private and aided co-educational institution affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. It is meticulously managed by Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar Memorial Trust. The motto of the college is “Wisdom and Love embody the Divine”.
The college has come a very long way since its inception due to the significant contribution of the founder, the great philanthropist Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar and the devoted service and support of his family members, the late Dr. Radha Thiagarajan. then President Emeritus), Karumuttu T. Kannan (President), Uma Kannan (Vice President) and K. Thiagarajan (Secretary).
Admissions 2023
Thiagarajar College offers 11 undergraduate courses, and 8 courses are offered at postgraduate level. The institute also offers 4 M.Phil. courses and Ph.D. programs. In self finance stream, 8 UG, 5 PG, and 5 M.Phil courses are offered. Additionally, 12 certificate and 11 diploma courses are also offered in self-finance stream.
- The application process for all the courses is conducted in offline mode.
- For UG courses, candidates must have passed HSC from a recognized institute with the concerned subject.
- For all the PG courses, they must have a graduation degree in a three-year course.
- For M.Phil course, applicants must have done Postgraduation in the concerned discipline.
- The selection to all the courses is done on the marks scored in qualifying examination.
Placements
Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) has not released the placement report for the current year on the official website yet. However, it recently released NIRF 2022 report. According to the NIRF report 2022, Thiagarajar College of Engineering has concluded its 2021 placements with over 765 students placed. Out of the total students placed, 685 students were from UG programmes and 80 were from PG programmes.
Further, the median package offered to UG (4-year) and PG (2-year) students during TCE placements 2021 was INR 4.5 LPA and INR 4 LPA, respectively. The top recruiters of Thiagarajar College of Engineering during the past years include Amazon, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Cognizant, etc.
