INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES - [IMS], VARANASI
The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) is one of the six institutes of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, and consists of three faculties: The faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Ayurveda.
The Institute of Medicine is the medical faculty of the university.
The Institute started as a College of Medical Sciences in 1960 with nine Departments of Modern Medicine and eight Departments of Ayurveda under the leadership of K. N. Udupa, Founder and Director of the Institute.
In 1971, the College of Medical Sciences was transferred to the Institute of Medicine. Today, it has 33 sections of modern medicine, including 10 sections of super specialties, four sections of dentistry, eleven sections of Ayurveda, and a school of nursing.
The institute is affiliated with Banaras Hindu University and offers medical and paramedical courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Admission to BAMS, MBBS, and BDS courses is based on NEET performance. Admission to nursing courses takes place through examinations conducted at the university level. It has
45 departments under three faculties.
The IMS-BHU was ranked seventh among medical colleges in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2021, sixth in 2021 by India Today, second in 2021 by Outlook India, and sixth in 2019 by The Week, and a remarkable rank of 69th in the world by QS WORLD RANKINGS 2022
